Islamabad: Opposition parties of Pakistan have finally agreed on a one-point agenda – to remove Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani from office.

A vote of no-confidence will be moved in the Upper House of the Parliament on July 9. This was decided in the maiden meeting of the Opposition parties’ Rahbar Committee held here Friday.

The committee also decided to meet again on July 11 to finalise their nominee for the Senate chairman. A consensus candidate will be fielded by the opposition parties for the top slot of the Senate. The Rahbar Committee, which comprises members from each political party of the Opposition bloc, agreed to hold such meetings regularly and to appoint a convener every two months.

At present senior leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and former Chief Minister of the Khyber Pakhunkhwa (KP) Akram Khan Durrani is the convener of the committee.

The Friday meeting also decided to get the signatures of all the 67 opposition members of the Senate on the no-confidence motion against the Senate chairman.

It was also decided in the meeting to hold protest rallies throughout the country on July 25, on the completion of the one year of general elections in the country and will also observe the July 25 as a “Black Day”.
