Matt Hardy and his situation with Impact Wrestling has gotten terribly out of hand, and it doesn’t look like as though things will get any better in the upcoming weeks. Impact and Anthem’s claim that they are the owners of the Hardy’s “Broken” gimmick is the believed reason why Matt has not used the gimmick since returning to WWE. Initially it was thought that WWE had been in talks to buy the rights to the gimmick, but then Anthem filed a number of trademarks related to the “Broken Universe.” Matt himself called out Impact owner Ed Nordholm recently on Twitter a few weeks ago. Now he done so again.
After a fan on Twitter commented that they wished Billy Corgan had purchased the promotion last fall, Matt Hardy called Nordholm “naive,” and then asserted that the Jarretts were using Impact as a vehicle to promote his Global Force Wrestling company that never properly got off the ground. Matt said: “If @Billy had got TNA, company/talent would’ve been great. Instead, a naive @EdNordholm is now funding GFW into existence at TNA’s expense.” Impact Wrestling has attempted to rebrand itself all year, and after Jeff Jarrett rejoined the company, GFW merged with Impact and multiple stars from GFW joined the roster.
While Matt Hardy certainly seems to be doing well enough without the “Broken” character, it’s easy to see why he’d be upset about not being able to use it. It was his most popular creation, and now fans are unable to see the character ever again unless he returns to Impact at some point. On top of that, you have Matt’s wife Reby claiming that Impact is going after her personally. The entire situation has become a toxic mess. It certainly seems more and more likely that this could be dragged to court, but nothing that drastic has been made official as of yet. It’s in the Hardys best interest to get those characters back as soon as possible, the last thing Matt would want is to use the character when people have lost interest in it. Hopefully something beneficial can be worked out between both sides soon, or else the “Broken Universe” is in serious jeopardy.
