It has become clear over the years that WWE does not exactly play well with other wrestling promotions. The company has only recently begun to form relationships with promotions such as EVOLVE, ICW, and PROGRESS Wrestling. Interestingly, fans may have noticed that The New Day took on NJPW’s The Elite in a game of Street Fighter V yesterday. Although the two stables merely played against each other in a video game, it is the closest that there has been to any sort of interpromotional relationship between WWE and NJPW recently. WWE even promoted the game on social media all week long before it was streamed live on the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel this past Thursday.
WWE’s attitude towards working with other promotions has changed quite a bit over the years, and according to Triple H, the company is open to working with even more promotions, including New Japan Pro Wrestling. During an interview with The Sun in the UK, the former WWE Champion claimed that he would “absolutely” be open to working with NJPW in the future. Triple H stated that the event would simply just need to take place under the right circumstances. Although it sounds like a WWE/NJPW cross-promotional event is still not happening for a while, Triple H has noted that the business is always changing and that he loves to take on new opportunities whenever they present themselves.
Rich Swann and Su Yung will soon be working together in Impact Wrestling, but a few details concerning the couple’s past few months have alarmed some fans. Rich Swann was arrested earlier this year for a domestic incident involving Yung, which is believed to have ultimately led to his departure from WWE a few months ago. The charges were eventually dropped as the two have been able to reconcile and put aside their differences. After it was announced that Swann had been booked for an independent show called “All Violence is Legal,” the backlash from fans forced the promotion to change the name of their show. Yung has since posted a message on Twitter defending her husband.
@GottaGetSwann is amazing & talented. Any & all crowds should be lucky to see him live. We happy. He doesn’t beat me. Stop harrasing him. RT
