BAY SHORE, NY — A woman who gave birth while on a ventilator because of the new coronavirus met her baby for the first time as she was released from the hospital.
Yanira Soriano was hospitalized at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with pneumonia from COVID-19 while pregnant. She was placed on a ventilator and underwent an emergency caesarean section at 34 weeks of pregnancy.
On Wednesday, Soriano was finally able to meet her newborn son, Walter, for the first time as she left the hospital.
In this video, numerous health care workers at Southside accompany Soriano as she is wheeled out to meet her son, to cheers and well-wishes. She is then able to stand up and walk to a waiting car while holding her son.
