To counter the hazards that come with manual scavenging of manholes, Kerala government has decided to do away with it altogether. After a couple of students from T’puram in Kerala engineered a robot that can remove garbage from blocked sewages and manholes, the government has decided to officially start using it.

‘Bandicoot,’ a robot developed by startup Genrobotics, will gradually be deployed across the state after testing it in Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday launched an initiative to end the practice of manual scavenging in the state and deploy robots to clean the sewers.
