Maharashtra’s complete ban on plastic bags is in its fourth day and the civic authorities have imposed a minimum fine of Rs 5,000 for all those who will use plastic. Environmentalists and activists have expressed doubts whether it will be successful.
Milk packets, PET bottles and plastic packages at the manufacturing stage were exempted from the ban initially. After the Maharashtra government enforced a ban on plastic in the state, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday seized 255.400 kilogram of plastic and collected Rs 3,90,000 in fine.
