River Island has confirmed it will proceed with developing a new national distribution building at Magna Park, Milton Keynes. The facility will comprise two interconnecting units, totalling 480,000 sq ft (44,572 sq m), with over 380 car parking spaces and 125 spaces for lorries. The development will be located alongside John Lewis on the 23 acre site that River Island acquired last year. Completion is set for 2011.

Graham Brown, UK head of industrial agency at Savills, says: “In a period of economic turbulence the decision to press ahead with this development confirms the long term commitment to this site as well as satisfying the need for a highly efficient logistics facility to meet the forecast operational needs for the expanding River Island retail business.”

River Island currently occupies distribution units at Tongwell totalling 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) and 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sq m), which will be vacated and leased or sold when River Island relocates to the Magna Park site.
