Ambati Rayudu had announced on Sunday that the 2023 Indian Premier League final would be his last appearance in the league as a player. In a topsy turvy final against the Gujarat Titans, the Chennai Super Kings batter nailed 19 runs off eight deliveries, a cameo that eventually helped CSK win their fifth IPL title.

On Tuesday though, Rayudu would announce that it was time for him to hang his boots from all forms of Indian cricket.

“It has been an emotional night that culminated in a special IPL win. On that high note, I would like to announce my retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. When I took up the cricket bat as a kid playing with the tennis ball at home, I didn’t imagine the wonderful journey that would follow for three decades,” Rayudu posted on his social media.

Rayudu’s IPL career featured him in 204 games for Mumbai Indians and then the CSK. During the same, he’d score 4348 runs. Across his international career for India, Rayudu scored 1694 runs in 55 ODI appearances aside from playing six T20Is as well.

“I consider it my greatest honor to have represented my country from the Under-15 to the highest level. I still remember the day I received my India cap for the first time in 2013 – it is a memory I will cherish forever,” Rayudu wrote.

Following the final win for CSK, skipper MS Dhoni would heap praises of the middle order batter, “The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his field.”

In his social media post, Rayudu also mentioned the former India captain, “It has also been a great privilege to play with captain Dhoni bhai both with CSK and Team India. We have had some great memories over the last two decades both on and off the field, which will stay in my heart forever.”
