Montpellier have announced the signing of striker Gaëtan Laborde from Bordeaux.

The 24-year-old has moved to the Stade de la Mosson for a fee of €5m on a four-year contract, following seven years at Bordeaux; in a period that saw Laborde make 71 appearances for Les Girondins, scoring 19 goals in all competitions.

In this seven-year period, Laborde also had spells with Red Star, Brest and Clermont as the young forward-who was recently reminded that he was not part of Gustavo Poyet’s future plans- sought first team playing opportunities.

Michel Der Zakarian will hope his latest signing will provide a further goal-scoring impetus along with other recently acquired forwards: Andy Delort and Petar Skuletic.

Montpellier club President Laurent Nicollin expressed his satisfaction in securing a deal for Laborde. “I’m delighted that Gaëtan is joining us after few days of negotiations. I hope he will bring us what the coach wishes offensively…I expect him to score goals”.
