MANCHESTER, CT — Police have made an arrest in connection with a violent car theft case that took place more than a year ago and left the owner of a vehicle with a fractured back.

The case dates back to Feb. 4, 2023. According to an incident report, at 8:12 a.m. that day, a Manchester resident pulled into Steve’s Bagels at 150 Center St. to pick up an order.
Moments after parking and entering the business, an Audi that was stolen out of Wallingford the day before, backed in next to the resident’s Porsche. one of the men in the stolen Audi then entered the Porsche through the driver’s door.

The owner of the Porsche came out of the bagel shop and approached the vehicle, but the car thief accelerated and struck the owner the front fender, according to an incident report.
Both the Audi and Porsche then fled the area after the incident and were located by officers in the days following, police said.

The victim suffered a serious injury, including several fractured vertebrae according to an incident report.
One suspect was subsequently identified through a nearly year-long joint investigation by officers from the Greater Hartford Regional Auto Theft Task Force, the Glastonbury Police Department, and the Hartford Police Department, as Elijah Drummond of Manchester.
Drummond surrendered Thursday on a warrant at the Manchester Police Department and was charged with the theft of a motor vehicle and a related conspiracy, along with criminal liability for first-degree assault, police said.
He was then turned over to Connecticut State Police on an outstanding motor vehicle theft warrant, police said.
