Ligue 1 side Lyon earlier this week announced a 3-year partnership with Portuguese 1st division side Farense, with a focus on youth development.
Recently promoted to Liga NOS for 2020/21, OL describes the intended collaboration with Farense as something that will focus on youth development, as well as in professional footballing and non-sporting domains. OL’s communiqué adds:
“After Lebanon (Athletico SC), Vietnam (Hô-Chi-Minh Football Federation), Senegal (AS Dakar Sacré-Coeur), China (with clubs in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen), Morocco (Fath Union Sport), Brazil (Pelé Academia) and the United States (OL Reign), Portugal becomes the eighth international territory where Lyon develops an elite technical cooperation with a major local actor.”
Talks with Farense began in January, when Director General Vincent Ponsot visited the club with Florian Maurice, then the club’s Head of Recruitment. This partnership will allow Lyon to place certain Brazilian players that they acquire, in order to facilitate these individuals’ development in European football.
