CAJON PASS — A road rage shooting that injured two people shut down a portion of the I-15 in the Cajon Pass area for hours Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The shooter remains at large.

The shooting occurred on the northbound side of the freeway near Ranchero Road at about 2 a.m., said CHP Officer J. Griggs. The CHP issued a SigAlert as all northbound lanes were closed for more than seven hours. The lanes were expected to reopen before 10 a.m., he said.

“As of right now, we are calling this highway violence between a gray and a red vehicle,” said Griggs. “There may have been an altercation that is unknown in which the red sedan fired several rounds at the gray vehicle”

Two passengers were wounded in the shooting. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, and they were rushed to high desert area hospitals for treatment, said Griggs.
