L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 side Nîmes’ opening weekend clash with Brest is under threat of becoming the second game of the first matchday to be cancelled owing to a COVID-19 outbreak.
4 cases have now been confirmed of COVID-19 in the Nîmes 1st team squad, with two new tests coming back positive today, after uncovering one case on Friday and Monday respectively. All four players have now been quarantined.
The LFP’s COVID-19 commission has been immediately alerted and are now studying the possibility of postponing the fixture.
The commission’s rules stipulate that if four positive cases are uncovered inside a 1st team squad in the eight days leading up to a match, then the game could be suspended to another date, which is what happened to Marseille vs St Étienne.
