Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier keeps faith in his first eleven and rarely makes changes early in the matches, one of the reasons why he has faced criticism from fans and pundits of the game.
A report from L’Équipe demonstrates that he has been the king of making late changes in the Champions League this season. Since the start of the European campaign, PSG have not faced a defeat yet, winning two and drawing two matches en route to capturing the top spot of their group.
But one point of concern among the PSG enthusiasts has been the timing of substitutes made by Galtier this season. The report strengthens the fans’ hypothesis, showing that the Parisien manager, on average, waits until the 73rd minute of the game to launch his first substitute. And it has been the trend for him in the Champions League this season.
There is Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann at the top of the list. The German prefers making quick changes. On average, his first substitute enters the field of play after 39 minutes in a match. Pep Guardiola has maintained a 49-minute mark while making his first change in a Champions League game this season.
Therefore, coaches such as Massimiliano Allegri, Diego Simeone, Luciano Spalletti, Igor Tudor, Carlo Ancelotti, Jürgen Klopp, Xavi Hernández, and Antonio Conte have all made faster changes in the Champions League this season than the former Ligue 1 winner with Lille. That said, with the players at PSG playing more and getting less rest time, the risk of getting hurt becomes more prominent.
