INLAND EMPIRE, CA — By early February, 1,173 workers in the Inland Empire’s logistics and warehousing sectors will be out of a job, the latest state filings show.
The most significant cuts are from Charlotte, North Carolina-based DMSI, which will permanently lay off 1,106 workers in Riverside County by January 26, according to California’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings.
The layoffs are occurring at DMSI’s three Moreno Valley locations and its Perris facility at 3404 Indian Avenue, the WARN filings show.

Patch reached out to the company’s headquarters on Monday, but there was no answer.
According to its website, DMSI provides light industrial and warehousing/logistics staffing for retail and manufacturing companies across the United States.

In addition to the Riverside County cuts, DMSI notified the state that 537 workers are being permanently laid off effective January 26 at the company’s Kern County location at 3501 Zachary Avenue in Shafter.
The DMSI layoffs follow a WARN notice showing Greenwich, Connecticut-based GXO Logistics Supply Chain Inc. is cutting 25 employees at its 2163 S. Riverside Avenue facility in Colton effective February 7. The company is closing the location, the state filing shows.
GXO touts itself as the “world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider,” with more than 970 facilities totaling approximately 200 million square feet.
On January 23, another 42 workers at two Inland Empire locations of Mountain Valley Express LLC will be out of a job. The permanent layoffs are occurring at the company’s 4685 Pier Enterprises Way facility in Jurupa Valley and its location at 1406 S. Cucamonga Avenue in Ontario.

Mountain Valley Express is also permanently laying off another six workers at its Hayward facility, 19 in Manteca, and seven in Visalia, the WARN filings show.
Mountain Valley Express, which serves the warehousing and transportation sectors, has locations across California, Arizona and Nevada.
The warehousing and logistics sectors have undergone significant transformations in recent years, with upswings largely driven by e-commerce.
The industry is implementing tech advancements and automation that affect the job market.
The sectors are also sensitive to factors such as where companies choose to produce and store goods, and worldwide economic conditions.
