MIDDLETOWN, RI — Newport Pickleball Club will open by the end of the month, giving athletes on Aquidneck Island a new sport to play — or a place to play a game they love.
The new athletic facility is slated to open where Island Cinemas 10 in Middletown used to be on Dec. 26.
Co-owners John Theberge and Chuck Irving have promised the new indoor courts will be “a game-changer for the region’s thriving pickleball and recreation community.” According to the owners, the facility will feature 11 indoor courts with noise controls, a dedicated space for private events, a restaurant, and a sports bar and lounge.

“We are thrilled to bring this world-class pickleball facility to Aquidneck Island,” Theberge told Patch in an interview earlier this year. “Our goal is to create a hub for the island community, where players can come together year-round to enjoy this hugely popular, multi-generational sport, and forge lasting connections in the community through our social and entertainment events.”
Newport Pickleball Club will be open to the public, but will also offer memberships. Anyone interested in purchasing or learning more about the memberships can check out Newport Pickleball Club’s website.
