REDLANDS, CA — Three people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy following a shooting near the Redlands Community Center that left one person wounded, police confirmed over the weekend.

Isaiah Martinez, 19, of Redlands, Jayson Alexandro Alfaro, 20, of San Bernardino, and a 17-year-old Redlands teen were taken into custody Friday in connection with the March 20 shooting.

Martinez was the shooter, Alfaro was the getaway driver, and the teen was a co-conspirator, according to the Redlands Police Department.

Martinez and Alfaro were being held in San Bernardino County jail in lieu of $2 million each. The teen was being held at juvenile hall. The minor’s identity was not released due to age.

The investigation began when Redlands police officers responded to a report of shots fired shortly after 2:30 p.m. March 20 in the 1200 block of Clay Street. A search of the area turned up a male victim behind the community center at 111 W. Lugonia Street. He was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg, according to police.

Witnesses told police that multiple suspects chased the victim through the center, went out through the gym’s doors, and shot him.

“Martinez shot the victim outside the center before fleeing the scene,” according to police.

Investigators believe the shooting was planned in retaliation for a December 2022 stabbing near the Mountain Grove shopping center in Redlands.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he is currently recovering, police said.

The community center was closed following the shooting but reopened March 21.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Redlands Police Department at 909-798-7681.
