QUEENS, NY — A man has been arrested New York City’s first homicide of 2024, police said.
Torrence Holmes, 35, faces a manslaughter charge in the stabbing death of Tsering Wangdu, 29, outside a Jackson Heights bar, authorities said.
Cops arrested Holmes, a Hamilton Heights man, inside a Queens police precinct Saturday, NYPD officials said. Holmes appeared for arraignment Monday and a judge released him on bail with “non-monetary” conditions, according to court records.

The case stems from an incident a few short hours after the Ball Drop in Times Square, authorities said.
Wangdu and another man, 30, got into an argument with a patron inside a bar near 76th Street and Roosevelt Avenue, the New York Post first reported.

All three were kicked out, but the fight continued and escalated into violence, according to the report.
A man — Holmes, police contend — stabbed Wangdu in the leg, authorities said.
Medics shortly after 4 a.m. rushed him to Elmhurst Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, police said.
The 30-year-old man was also stabbed in his chest and face during the fight, police said, but it’s unclear whether Holmes has been accused or charged in that attack.
