PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania is home to the worst grocery store in the United States in terms of prices, quality, long lines, and more, according to a recent survey.

The survey conducted by website and game maker Solitaired analyzed Google reviews for 3,000 grocery stores in 100 cities to find the best and worst grocery stores across the country and what made shoppers either love or hate them.

The result? While some stores stood out in areas like customer service, food quality, prices, and checkout speed, several in Pennsylvania did not.

In fact, the Giant Eagle supermarket on Cedar Avenue in Pittsburgh was ranked No. 1 on the survey’s list of the top 50 worst grocery stores in the United States. Trailing behind Giant Eagle is the Metro Thriftway on East 63rd Street in Kansas City and Walmart on East Exposition Avenue in Aurora, Colorado.

Shoppers also aren’t fans of Supremo Food Market on Walnut Street in Philadelphia. The store ranked 18th among the top 50 worst grocery stores overall. The store also came in at No. 22 for the worst food quality, according to the survey.

Meanwhile, South Square Market on South Street in Philadelphia ranked 19th for the worst food quality.

Another Pennsylvania grocery store that drew ire from shoppers, according to the survey, was ACME Market on Walnut Street in Philadelphia. The location was ranked 18th among grocery stores with the worst checkout lines.

Giant Eagle on Freeport Road in Pittsburgh came in at No. 40 on the same list.

Two Pennsylvania stores were among the worst for prices, according to the survey. Olde City Food Market on Market Street in Philadelphia was ranked seventh, while Spruce Market on Spruce Street came in at No. 26.

Here’s the good news: Trader Joe’s, located at 1324 Arch St. in Philadelphia, made the survey’s list of best grocery stores in the United States. The location came in at No. 44 out of 50.

To identify the best and worst grocery stores in the United States, researchers focused only on stores with more than 1,000 reviews. They then combined the star rating and the number of reviews to rank each grocery store.

Overall, shoppers preferred Trader Joe’s, Costco, and Wegmans, while Walmart, King Soopers, Save A Lot, and Kroger were America’s least favorite major grocery chains.

The top three best supermarkets in the U.S. were Trader Joe’s in Gilbert, Arizona, and St. Petersburg, Florida, and Central Market in Fort Worth, Texas.

The top three worst grocery stores in the country were Giant Eagle Supermarket on Cedar Avenue in Pittsburgh, Metro Thriftway in Kansas City, and Walmart Supercenter in Aurora, Colorado.
