CHANNAHON, IL —Syruss Box, a 35-year-old Channahon resident, must remain in the Will County Jail indefinitely now that Will County Judge Dave Carlson has found that Box meets the dangerousness standard. Box choked a woman at his house, almost to the point of losing consciousness, according to the Will County prosecutor’s petition to deny pretrial release.

The State’s Attorney’s Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Box with seven crimes: two counts of aggravated domestic battery and five counts of domestic battery.

According to the petition to deny pretrial release, Channahon police were called to Box’s house in the 22600 block of Woodside Drive on Feb. 19 for an aggravated domestic battery crime. The victim told officers Box had lived there for the past several months, and he attacked her. She and Box were arguing about whether Box was cheating on her, court documents show, and her accusations angered Box.

He punched her in the face several times, and then he began to choke her, grabbing her throat and squeezing it, finally dragging the woman across the floor, court files note. The woman told officers she almost lost consciousness during the attack. The woman suffered a swollen left eye and lip, and she had several red scratches to her neck.

Box’s pretrial release poses a safety threat to one or more persons, the prosecutors argued.
