FAIRFIELD, CT — A new restaurant called Rye Bird is poised to fill the space that formerly housed Mike’s Pizza Restaurant in downtown Fairfield, according to signs in the windows of the site at 1560 Post Road.

Mike’s was a fixture in town for 50 years, a place where everyone went, News 12 Connecticut reported.

Mike Jordanopoulos, the founder, and his wife sold the pizza spot in 2000, and it has changed hands several times since then, but always kept the name.

Mike’s closed quietly, and Rye Bird, a dine-in chicken restaurant, is expected to open in May, the Fairfield Citizen reported.

Patch reached out to Post Road Hospitality, the restaurant management company that will operate Rye Bird, for comment, but did not immediately receive a reply.

In addition to chicken and other fowl, Rye Bird reportedly will also serve more than two-dozen bourbons at the bar.

Post Road Hospitality is also developing Saigon Snack Bar, a largely outdoor restaurant that will serve Southeast Asian cuisine. It will open in June in the space on Unquowa Road that used to house Isla & Co.
