GLEN COVE, NY — With two weeks until the special election to decide who replaces George Santos in Congress, Tom Suozzi says he deserves another round on Capitol Hill.
His challenger, Mazi Pilip, of county legislator from Great Neck, with the backing of the local GOP leaders, “is trying to make it referendum on the Democrat party, overall,” Suozzi said during a Zoom press conference on Tuesday. “I’m trying to make this race about Suozzi versus Mazi.”
He said the Santos saga is over, if not forgotten. Santos was expelled as the 3rd Congressional representative in December.

“I don’t think George Santos would even come up in this race, but for the fact that Mazi Pilip is not being transparent, she’s not debating,” Suozzi said. “How can you, in this Age of George Santos, not be transparent?”
Patch attempted to reach Pilip’s campaign for comment.

Pilip, an Ethiopian Jew, who lived in Israel, agreed to debate Suozzi one time — Feb. 8 — on News 12.
Aside from her skipping debates and other media opportunities, Suozzi said his opponent hasn’t revealed who she voted for in past presidential elections.
“I’d like to know the answer to that question and I think the public deserves to know the answer to that question as well,” he said. “Either way, it comes with consequences. People will make judgments based upon that.”
The special election is on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
