MILFORD, CT – After being in the event design industry for over 20 years, Marcie Dunbar decided to use her knowledge and open an event venue business in Milford.
“The Reign is an event venue where we host weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, and all types of events from large to small ones,” said Dunbar. “We do full service. Our setup is all-inclusive with tables, linens, and everything needed for the event.”
Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for The Reign Event Venue Tuesday, May 16, at 240 Naugatuck Ave.

The Reign is Dunbar’s first event venue business, but she is not new to the event industry.
“I’m an event designer and decorator and have been doing that part-time for more than 20 years,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to have a venue of my own, so when this opportunity presented itself, I took it.”

Located just three minutes from the waterfront, The Reign Event Venue features a bar in the
“Royal Court” room and a large room with enough space to host multiple events.
During the ribbon-cutting event, Dunbar and her team had set up the larger room of the two available to reflect a wedding scene, which included a rose wall with the words “Happily Ever After
“We opened in 2022 and hosted 11 events from November to December,” Dunbar said. “We already hosted our first wedding here. We did full service for them from cocktail hour to reception.”
The closeness to Walnut Beach is what Dunbar liked the most about the location.
“I’m from Stratford, but I’m very familiar with the Walnut Beach Community because, for many years, I’ve been coming to my favorite ice cream location, Walnut Beach Creamery,” she said.
“Walnut Beach was the perfect place to open this event venue because it’s my favorite spot, and Walnut Beach is one of my favorite places to be,” she said.
Dunbar said the community support for The Reign has been positive, and many of her neighbors have thanked her for beautifying the location.
“When we first got the place, it looked like it was abandoned,” she said. “When we were fixing up the palace, people would walk by and give us a thumbs up or say a good job, which made us feel welcomed.”
