On loan from Arsenal, Nuno Tavares has indicated that he would not spare an inch for Sporting CP when they lock horns with Marseille in a Champions League group stage match on Wednesday evening.

After their 4-1 home victory against the Portuguese side, Sporting boss Rúben Amorim aggressively reacted to the result, subsequently insulting the Marseille players. Although Amorim tried to calm things down in the press conference ahead of the match on Wednesday, Tavares said that he would like to retaliate with their performance in Lisbon.

As quoted by RMC Sport, the full-back said:

“He says that nothing happened, but he knows very well what he said. If I had any respect for this coach, I no longer have any. But we have to move on, and there will be another game.”

When asked about whether his past with Sporting bothered him, Tavares, who was at the Portuguese club between 2010 and 2013, stated:

“That’s the least of my worries. I have not come to Lisbon to make friends. I have come to play and get the three points.”
