Foot Mercato are reporting that Mattéo Guendouzi (23) could politely refuse a move to Aston Villa, should a deal between the Premier League club and Olympique de Marseille come to pass.

The French publication reports that, during his time at the Orange Vélodrome, the former Arsenal midfielder has become “very attached” to Marseille. That attachment could even force him to politely reject the approaches of Aston Villa and Unai Emery.

According to Foot Mercato, Aston Villa have been courting the France international midfielder the past few days, despite Pablo Longoria’s comments that there has been no bid, nor any conversation about the sale of Guendouzi. Aston Villa’s interest could soon manifest itself in a concrete offer, with RMC Sport reporting that the Premier League side are ready to spend up to €40m to bring the former Arsenal midfielder back to England.

However, the player is not necessarily keen on the switch. He has grown attached to Marseille, and whilst he isn’t closed to the idea of a return to the Premier League, he doesn’t necessarily want to move to a mid-table side.
