In what is hopefully the stupidest spot you see in a professional wrestling ring this week, a man lit himself on fire in front of a small crowd in the Philippines, before executing a dive off the top rope into a group of wrestlers on the floor. There were two flaws in his elaborately constructed plan – 1) Nobody wants to catch a man that’s literally on fire, and 2) The fire wasn’t properly extinguished, and the indie wrestler ran around the building ablaze, as horrified children watched from the audience.
The event took place at the iAcademy Auditorium in Makati, a city of about half a million people packed into the Philippine Islands, for a promotion called Philippine Wrestling Revolution. The daredevil in question is James “The Idol” Martinez, and apparently this isn’t the first time his antics have brought the company negative press.
According to Reddit user “TranquilloBro”, this show was actually PWR’s comeback to the Auditorium after being banned for two years over Martinez performing a move from the second floor of the building. He also… punched a cow in the face at some point, allegedly. The real crime here is that whoever took the video didn’t turn their phone sideways.
