SATURDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE
Last night’s SmackDown averaged 2.24 million viewers in the overnight ratings. The rating in the 18-49 demo was a 0.55. With preseason football airing on Fox in some markets, it won’t be until the final numbers are out on Monday that we get a full picture of the SmackDown ratings.
During a live podcast with Colin Cowherd, Paul “Triple H” Levesque was asked about potentially having another match:

If people want it, if it’s the right thing, it has got to be intriguing. At this point, with as busy as everybody is in WWE from the business side, for me to get ready for WrestleMania, at my age, it’s not something to enter into casually. I’d have to train a lot, a couple times a day for three months or so to get ready for that. In-ring training and everything. I’ve already torn most of everything off my body so I want to make sure I’m not ready to do that again. The training would be the tough part with the schedule, but if it was something people wanted and it was intriguing to me, I would love to do it. I would love to come back and hit a WrestleMania, but I’ve said it before, I would also love to…much like somebody like Cena, you sort of make the comeback and do it, but going to the towns. If I was to do something like that before I called it a day, go to the Garden again. Go to Japan. Go to different countries and have that one more match. Step into those cities where you have 25+ years of memories and opponents and to be able to go out there and do it again in front of them one more time. It doesn’t have to be the same person you go against at WrestleMania. It’s a matter of what we can make happen, but it’s intriguing for sure.

In an interview with TalkSport, Mustafa Ali discussed being told that he was winning the 2019 men’s Money in the Bank match on the day of the PPV and then being informed when he was about to make his entrance that he wasn’t winning:

We got nothing other than ‘you’re in the match’ the week-of [the MITB match]. Day-of, I’m winning it! Man, this is my moment, this is everything I’ve been working for, I can’t believe it, this is awesome.

Then the match is about to start, so the entrances have started. I may be wrong about this, but Baron Corbin is making his entrance and I’m soon to be making my entrance, and that’s when I get pulled that I have to go see the boss.

[Vince says] ‘This is what I want. Grab the briefcase. Shock. Then you’re frozen. This is what I want.’

And you have to realise, right before you’re about to go out through the curtain is not the time to argue.

You’re getting a direct order about what is to be expected of you. I know some people say ‘why didn’t you just grab the briefcase!’ [laughs]. I was more concerned with grabbing my check that week! So I grabbed my check.

At the end of the day, it’s not my show. The guy who writes this, who owns this, who decides what happens told me specific instructions and I said ‘OK, not a problem boss.’ And I went out there and did exactly what I was asked to do.

At the end of the day, like, hey, it worked right? People are still talking about that moment years later. Everyone’s sad about it, but guys, we got Brock listening to the briefcase like a boombox and dancing – I gave you that gift! [laughs].

Doudrop told Wrestling Inc about the reaction she had when she told her name was being changed from Piper Niven: “Not going to lie, at first they were like, ‘Your new name is going to be Doudrop,’ and I was like, ‘K.’ But I’m the type of person who takes an opportunity and runs with it. It doesn’t matter what it is. In this business, opportunities aren’t necessarily plenty, so I just took that ball and ran with it. It’s all about what you make of it. So far I think it’s been pretty good.”
