After nearly ten years in his latest run with the company, Ric Flair both reportedly requested and obtained his release from WWE.

Fightful and Wrestling Inc. first reported the news. No reason was given for why he wanted his release.

Just last year, Flair said he had re-signed with the company, even tweeting he would be with WWE forever. He said at the time that he wouldn’t have signed elsewhere if WWE hadn’t renewed him.

The 72-year-old was last seen as part of a Charlotte Flair/Lacey Evans angle that ended when Evans became pregnant. At odds with her father in storyline, Charlotte sent Ric home in a late-February backstage Raw segment.

The wrestling legend and all-time great was in his third run with WWE with his first run starting in the then-WWF back in 1991. He left in 1993 and then returned in 2001 before leaving again in 2009. He is the first two-time WWE Hall of Fame inductee.

Flair has been seen in various ads for third parties in the last few years. He hasn’t wrestled since 2011 in a loss to Sting on an episode of Impact Wrestling.
