The dust has settled on two back-to-back nights of incredible professional wrestling, culminating in one man making history in the finals of the first ever Double Gold Dash.
As New Japan began building up the top matches for Wrestle Kingdom 14 in the final quarter of 2019, it became clear that all four of the company’s top stars were hell bent on becoming the first man to ever hold both the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental Championships simultaneously.
Since Kota Ibushi had won the 2019 G1 Climax tournament, he was contractually owed a match with the “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada for the top prize at the Tokyo Dome. That left “Switchblade” Jay White to defend the Intercontinental belt in a rematch against Tetsuya Naito. It was then decided that the winners of the two main events on night one would collide in a Winner Take All finale on night two.

Saturday’s show saw Naito defeat White in an incredible match, with callbacks to their entire rivalry as well as the Los Ingobernables leader’s own history with the title. Okada then showed why he is the greatest champion of this generation, defeating Ibushi and crushing what many assumed was the “Golden Star’s” crowning moment.
This lead to the main event of night two, where in a shocking and emotional turn of events, Tetsuya Naito put down his greatest obstacle in a moment literally years in the making, finally defeating Kazuchika Okada in the main event of the Tokyo Dome to become the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
