It was announced at the beginning of the year that KENTA was looking to return to Japan, but it was widely assumed that WWE allowed him out of his contract in order to return to the smaller NOAH promotion, which is realistically not competition for them and has very little influence on the western market.

KENTA was brought out Sunday morning (U.S. time) as the special guest of the great Katsuyori Shibata. He then promised to show the New Japan fans his style of wrestling, and officially announced himself for the 2019 G1 Climax tournament!
