1/9/17 WWE SmackDown Live House Show Results from Lake Charles, LA
– Tonight WWE had a Monday Night SmackDown house show and the card did change
several times leading up to the show. For the past month it was advertised Styles
vs Cena vs Ambrose in a Triple Threat for the World Title and The Wyatt Family vs
American Alpha for the SD Tag Titles. Last week the Main Event was changed to
Styles vs Cena vs Ambrose vs Ziggler in a Fatal 4 Way for the World Title. Due to
Ambrose winning the IC title last week on SD Live and with Corbin now being apart
of the title picture, the card was changed tonight during the actual event ( as
always the card is subject to change) and here is what went down.
Match 1) Intercontinental Championship- Dean Ambrose defeated Dolph Ziggler
following the Dirty Deeds to retain the IC Title. Great opening match with Lots of
action and near falls, Ziggler was playing his new heel role, and received a Mixed
reaction while Ambrose was fab favorite.
Match 2) Kalisto defeated Curt Hawkins following the Salida De La Sol. Hawkins
grabbed the mic and stated he will not leave this town a loser and challenged anyone
in the back. This led to James Ellsworth answering the challenge.
Match 3) James Ellsworth defeated Curt Hawkins following a No Chin Music in less
than ten seconds.
– It was announced that tonight’s Main Event will be AJ Styles vs John Cena vs Baron
Corbin in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship.
Match 4) 12 Man Tag Team Match- Rhyno & Heath Slater, The Usos, Jack Swagger & Mojo
Rawley defeated The Vaudevillians, The Ascension & Breezeango when Rhyno pinned
Simon Gotch after hitting the Spear. The Usos played as a face team again.
Match 5) Nikki Bella defeated Natalya following the Rack Attack 2.0. At the end,
Carmella attempted to interfere but Nikki knocked her off the ring apron.
Match 6) SmackDown Woman’s Championship- Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch with a
small package and hand full of tights to retain the SD Woman’s Title. Afterward,
Becky knocked down Bliss and raised her title.
Match 7) SmackDown Tag Champions American Alpha & Apollo Crews defeated Randy Orton,
Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper when Chad Gable pinned Harper after a Grand Amplitude.
Alpha and Crews received a good reaction but the Wyatt Family were really over
during their ring entrance and as usual Randy Orton had a huge pop, and Orton hit
the RKO out of nowhere on Crews late in the match.
Main Event: Triple Threat for the WWE World Championship- AJ Styles defeated John
Cena & Baron Corbin to retain the World Title. Cena hit the AA on Corbin but Styles
nailed Cena with a low blow and rolled him up for the win. Afterward, Styles
grabbed the mic and stated he is “the face that runs the place and still the WWE
World Champion”, but Cena gave Him the AA to send the crowd home happy. Great main
event with lots of back and fourth action. Cena was really over and Styles received
a good mixed reaction, while Corbin had the most heat.
– Overall a solid show and The Civic Center was half full .
