WWE broadcaster Mauro Ranallo continued his eventful week on Twitter, teasing his return to Showtime Boxing broadcasts just days after deleting all mention of WWE on his profile.
Ranallo on Saturday tweeted:
2 weeks away from an action packed night of action at @barclayscenter Join me & rest of @ShowtimeBoxing crew for #BertoPorter
The WWE issued a statement Saturday which didn’t clarify the situation with Ranallo, mentioning that their contract runs through August 12, 2017.
CBS Sports is reporting that Ranallo is not expected to appear on camera for the WWE again, despite being under contract for four more months.
Ranallo had served as the SmackDown play-by-play broadcaster since January 2016, and for 205 Live since the brand split. He has missed SmackDown broadcasts the past few weeks and also wasn’t a part of WrestleMania 33.
Ranallo has been open in the past about battling depression and bipolar disorder. Many have speculated that John Bradshaw Layfield’s backstage bullying may have played a part in Ranallo’s absence from WWE television. Former WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts in his book, Best Seat In The House: Your Backstage Pass Through My WWE Journey, blamed JBL for bullying and hazing him throughout his career.
Ranallo on Friday issued a cryptic tweet allegedly about his situation:
“Three things cannot be hidden: The sun,the moon, and the truth.” – Buddha
Ranallo has not given an official reason why his time with the WWE appears to be coming to an end.
