One of the biggest stars in all of Impact Wrestling had been Alberto El Patron. Alberto debuted in Impact Wrestling last year with a ton of buzz surrounding him at the time. He had previously made a name for himself while competing in Mexico for a few years before later arriving as Alberto Del Rio in WWE. During his time with WWE, Alberto managed to win the 40-man Royal Rumble in 2011 before he later went on to win the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship. Alberto Del Rio later left the company over some reportedly false promises that the company had made to him regarding his future as a main event competitor in recent months.

IMPACT Wrestling announced today that it has terminated its agreement with Alberto El Patron, effective immediately.

After leaving WWE back in 2016, Alberto quickly went back out on the independent wrestling circuit before eventually joining Impact Wrestling back in March of 2017. The promotion quickly pushed Alberto as one of their top stars, but the promotion has just announced that Alberto will no longer be working for Impact Wrestling. The news of Alberto’s release comes right after Alberto reportedly missed several Impact Wrestling events that he had been scheduled to appear on at WrestleCon over the past few days. He also legitimately no-showed the recent Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground show in New Orleans. Alberto has yet to comment on his release from Impact Wrestling at the moment, but the promotion officially confirmed his departure on social media yesterday.
Alberto El Patron accomplished a lot during his time with Impact Wrestling, even unifying the GFW Global Championship and the Impact Wrestling Championship at one point, but this is not the first time that he had issues with the promotion. Alberto was suspended by Impact for months and was stripped of his titles due to a domestic violence issue involving his then-girlfriend Paige. Interestingly enough, a few recent reports have mentioned that Vince McMahon is actually interesting in bringing Alberto El Patron back to the company. While a possible WWE return is unclear for Alberto at the moment, what is clear is that Impact will no longer be working with him going forward.
