Manheim, Pa. – With very limited dual meet competition over the holidays, the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll saw no changes as it was released on Tuesday.
Penn State garnered all 12 first-place votes for the fourth straight week and start 2016 with a 6-0 record and an impressive tournament victory at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Jan. 1-1.
Second-ranked Iowa (8-0) captured the 53rd Ken Kraft Midlands Championship in Evanston, Ill. Third-ranked N.C. State (11-0) also competed at the Midlands, finishing fourth.
Missouri (5-0) remained No. 4, while Virginia Tech (4-1) was one of the few teams that did see dual meet action. The Hokies topped in-state rival George Mason 32-11 on January 3.
The only matchup with ranked teams took place in the Big Ten as No. 6 Ohio State improved to 5-1 after a 22-17 win at Illinois on January 3. The Fighting Illini dropped to 8-1.
