New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor have had a working relationship for a number of years now, and the two promotions have worked together to put on some truly tremendous shows. They’ll be teaming up once again when they run their G1 Supercard event in the world famous Madison Square Garden arena in New York City over WrestleMania 35 weekend. Although the two promotions have no issue working together, it appears that they may have some issues with working for All Elite Wrestling. AEW is a brand new wrestling promotion that was announced by the members of The Elite at the start of the year. All Elite Wrestling is set to be up and running later on this year with a full roster, events, and a TV deal being worked on by AEW President Tony Khan. Unfortunately, it seems as if NJPW won’t be working with AEW.
All Elite Wrestling may be receiving backing from the billionaire Khan family, but the upstart promotion is still reportedly very keen on forming relationships with other wrestling promotions. Given The Elite’s history with ROH and NJPW, it seemed like the three promotions would team up without any problems. However, the Wrestling Observer Radio show noted that New Japan will continue to work with Ring of Honor, but officials from NJPW have decided against working with The Elite’s new promotion. There was reportedly some though that Kenny Omega would be working for both promotions if an agreement was made, but NJPW decided against teaming up with AEW. The Observer even speculates that this may have helped contribute towards Omega’s decision to take a hiatus from New Japan earlier this week.
Perhaps two of the biggest names in the wrestling industry today not currently signed to WWE are the Lucha Bros. Pentagon and Fenix have competed for promotions such as MLW, Impact Wrestling, and Lucha Underground over the years just to name a few of the places that they have worked in. Wrestling News World has claimed that there is interest from AEW in signing the brothers. However, Impact then offered them 6-figure deals to stay with the promotion. Later on, it was mentioned that All Elite Wrestling then tripled Impact’s offer as officials are hoping for the Luchadors to be in attendance for the Double or Nothing rally on January 8th. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the status of the Lucha bros.
