MANKATO — Last March, on a Saturday night in St. Paul, Mankato West’s Charlie Pickell had one of his dreams taken away from him.
Pickell, a sophomore who had already won two state wrestling championships, met Jackson Stauffacher of Scott West in the 126-pound championship match and came out on the short end of a 3-2 score.
Poof! Just like that, his dream of becoming a five-time Minnesota state champion had vanished.
“It was disappointing, for sure,” Pickell said. “But I knew he was a good wrestler. He had beaten me in the section finals, too, so I knew it would be a tough match.” Continue reading at www.mankatofreepress.com
