It was confirmed yesterday that WWE will be returning to Saudi Arabia despite the controversy surrounding the partnership. The plan is for WWE to return to the nation for another show next month, and WWE is bringing in some huge names for the event as well. One individual who has been announced for the event is former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and former Universal Champion Goldberg. Goldberg is definitely a huge name for the next event in Saudi Arabia, but it was originally thought that he was finished with his wrestling career following his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33. It turns out that WWE officials had quite a few reasons behind convincing him to come out of retirement.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, one of the reasons why Goldberg is being brought back is because All Elite Wrestling officials were said to be interested in him. Keeping top names like Goldberg away from AEW and names like Undertaker and Kurt Angle away from Starrcast is one way that WWE has been preventing competition between the two promotions. Of course, it has also been rumored in the past that the Saudi Crown Prince is more interested in wrestlers from the past than the ones on the current roster. This development comes right after the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said that Vince McMahon isn’t releasing any roster member who may go sign with AEW right now.
The controversy with 205 Live’s Lio Rush continues to grow with each passing day. Rush has reportedly attracted backstage heat and has stopped making appearances on Raw. Rush later explained in an interview that he isn’t compensated along with Bobby Lashley and hasn’t been earning enough money to live on WWE’s travel schedule. However, PWInsider reports that Rush turned down a recent multi-year WWE contract offer for $300,000 per year. “The Man of the Hour” supposedly put in a request to earn double that amount, but he was denied. Rush has also apparently been taken off of WWE’s annual European tour. Be sure to stay tuned for all of the latest updates on Lio Rush’s contract and status with WWE.
