No. 25 Purdue Pushes Past Bison 22-12

FARGO, N.D. – Purdue University won seven of 10 matches including a pair of sudden victory decisions at 157 and 197 pounds to defeat North Dakota State 22-12 in a non-conference dual on Sunday, Nov. 17, before 509 in Scheels Center.

North Dakota State (1-1, 0-0 Big12) is scheduled to travel to Bloomington to take on Indiana University at 6 p.m. Central Time on Friday, November 22.

Purdue (3-1, 0-0 Big Ten) won the first three bouts including No. 7-ranked Kendall Coleman’s 8-6 sudden victory-1 decision over No. 33 Jared Franek. Coleman and Franek went back and forth in the first three periods before Coleman’s takedown midway in the extra session for the win and a 9-0 lead in the dual. Franek lost for the first time in six matches.

North Dakota State’s No. 8-ranked 157-pounder Andrew Fogarty muscled his way to an 8-0 major decision over No. 24 Emil Soehnlen and cut the deficit to 9-4. Fogarty improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in duals.

The Boilermakers rattled off three more wins including Thomas Penola’s 6-4 sudden victory-1 decision over Cordell Eaton at 197 pounds. Eaton drops to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in duals.

No. 26-ranked Brandon Metz snapped the Purdue run with a 9-6 decision over David Eli. Metz improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in duals.

North Dakota State’s No. 7-ranked 133-pounder Cam Sykora closed the dual with an 18-3 tech fall at 5:08 over Marshall Craig. Both wins have come by tech fall for Sykora, who now has 35 in his career.
