A total of nine student-athletes from the St. Cloud State University wrestling team were named to the 2019-20 NWCA Division II Scholar All-America team.

This group included NCAA national qualifiers junior Jake Barzowksi (Mount Prospect, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.), freshman Joey Bianchini (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Immaculate Conception H.S.), senior Kolton Eischens (Pierz, Minn./Healy H.S.), junior Devin FitzPatrick (Mahtomedi, Minn./H.S.), sophomore Noah Ryan (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville H.S.) and sophomore Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia H.S.) along with sophomore Devin Donovan (Wheaton, Ill./North H.S.), junior Adam Hedin (Rosemount, Minn./H.S.) and freshman Brock Schlough (Menomonie, Wisc./Boyceville H.S.).

A total of 267 student-athletes from 49 institutions nation-wide were honored in 2019-20. In order for a student-athlete to be recognized with this award, they must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.2 for those who have qualified for the 2020 NCAA DII wrestling championships. The athletes must have also competed in a minimum of five dates of competition.

A national qualifier for the Huskies at 157-pounds, Barzowski is a special education major at SCSU. He won the 2020 NCAA DII Super 5 regional title at 157-pounds and finished the year with an 18-2 record. The NSIC Rookie of the Year, Bianchini won the 141-pound title at the NCAA DII regional and posted a 20-1 record in 2019-20. He is a business major at SCSU.

Donovan is a health and physical education major at SCSU and posted a 15-2 record during his season at 165-pounds for the Huskies. A two-time All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-America award winner in 2019, Eischens was named the 2020 NSIC Wrestler of the Year. He placed first at the NCAA DII Regional at 174-pounds and posted an 18-1 record in 2019-20. He is a technology management major at SCSU.

FitzPatrick charted an 18-1 record for the Huskies in 2019-20. The NCAA DII regional champ at 165-pounds, FitzPatrick is a marketing major at SCSU. Hedin was 4-2 for the Huskies at 133-pounds in 2019-20 and he is a biomedical sciences major at SCSU. A runner-up in the 197-pound bracket at the 2020 NCAA regional, Ryan is a criminal justice major at SCSU. He was 18-4 for the Huskies in 2019-20.

One of only 11 DII wrestlers in the nation to gain a perfect 4.00 GPA this year, Schlough is a technology management major at SCSU. He was 13-8 for the Huskies at 165-pounds in 2019-20. The group is completed by Vos, who is a criminal justice major at SCSU. Vos claimed first place honors in the 133-pound bracket at the 2020 NCAA DII regional and completed his 2019-20 campaign with an undefeated 17-0 record.

SCSU ended its season with a number one ranking in the final NCAA Division II national poll. The Huskies posted a 16-0, 8-0 NSIC record in 2019-20, which included a first place team finish at the 2020 NCAA DII Super 5 Regional. SCSU won the 2020 NWCA DII National Duals title and also claimed its ninth consecutive NSIC championship under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo. The Huskies qualified nine wrestlers for the 2020 NCAA DII championships, which were cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis.

As a team, SCSU posted a 3.009 grade point average – which just missed the NWCA’s top 20 ranking this season. In his career as a college coach, Costanzo’s wrestlers have earned NWCA Scholar All-America status 132 times.
