TULSA, Okla. – South Dakota State wrestlers Henry Pohlmeyer and Tanner Sloan are each seeded second in their respective weight classes for this weekend’s Big 12 Wrestling Championship. The top eight pre-seeds in each of the 10 weight classes were announced Wednesday by conference officials.

A senior from Johnston, Iowa, Pohlmeyer is seeded second in the 149-pound division after posting a 19-4 record so far this season. His lone loss against a Big 12 opponent was to top-seeded Boo Lewallen of Oklahoma State.

A two-time NCAA qualifier, Pohlmeyer is scheduled to face Seth Hogue of West Virginia in the opening round on Saturday.

Sloan, a redshirt freshman from Alburnett, Iowa, earned the No. 2 seed in the 197-pound weight class following a 18-5 regular season in which he has won 12 of his last 13 bouts. He is matched up against Iowa State’s Joel Shapiro in the opening round.

Also earning top-four seeds for the Jackrabbits were senior Zach Carlson, third at 184 pounds, and Tanner Cook, fourth in the 165-pound weight class. Carlson, who leads the team in victories with a 23-5 record, is slated to receive a first-round bye and will await the winner between No. 6 Darrian Roberts of Oklahoma and North Dakota State’s Noah Cressell.

Cook, a freshman from Ilion, New York, has posted an 18-3 record so far this season with 12 pins. He also is set to receive a first-round bye and will meet the winner between No. 5 Cole Moody of Wyoming and Oklahoma’s Elijah Joseph.

Three other Jackrabbits were included in the top-eight seeds in their weight classes: Danny Vega, sixth at 125 pounds; Clay Carlson, seventh at 141 pounds, and Peyton Smith, eighth at 157 pounds. Vega is scheduled to face Wyoming’s Jake Svihel in the opening round, while Clay Carlson is set to receive a first-round bye and will face the winner between No. 2 Ian Parker of Iowa State and North Dakota State’s Dylan Droegemueller.

Smith, who was a late addition to the starting lineup, is slated to wrestle Utah Valley’s Jed Loveless in the opening round.

Unseeded Jackabbit wrestlers included Zach Price (133 pounds), Cade King (174) and Blake Wolters (285). Price has drawn fifth-seeded Todd Small of Iowa State in first-round action, while King is matched up against second-seeded Anthony Mantonona of Oklahoma. Wolters is slated to wrestle eighth-seeded Kayne Hutchison of Air Force in the opening round.
