LYNN, MA — Surreal photos show cars and trucks flooded in Lynn as the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for south central Essex County and eastern Middlesex County. The warning remains in a effect until 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
Just before 10:30 a.m., trained weather spotters reported flash flooding in
Lynn and Peabody, the agency said. Five inches of rain had fallen and some areas were already seeing flash flooding.
Some locations that will experience flooding include: Lynn, Peabody, Salem, Beverly, North Andover, Saugus, Danvers, Wakefield, Reading, Stoneham, Marblehead, North Reading, Swampscott, Lynnfield, Middleton, Boxford, Hamilton, Topsfield, Manchester and Wenham, the agency said. Drivers should stay away from flooded roads.
“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the agency warned. “Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.”
Photos and video posted on social media showed cars submerged in tire-deep waters in Lynn, including on Westin Avenue.

Excessive runoff from heavy rains will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
Fire officials tweeted that there were “multiple flooded roadways” throughout the city.
“Please use caution when driving and stay in if possible,” the City Of Lynn Fire Department tweeted.

A flood warning has been issued for south central Essex County and will remain in effect until 11:45 a.m.
Meanwhile, a coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 11 p.. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday. for eastern Plymouth, Suffolk, eastern Essex, Barnstable, eastern Norfolk and Nantucket Counties.
