ORLANDO, FL — Smoking, loose ice and stroller wagons will join the list of items banned by Disney parks in Orlando and California.
Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort announced Thursday that visitors will no longer be allowed to smoke in the theme parks, use stroller wagons to haul kids or belongings, or bring in ice. The smoking ban and stroller rules go into effect May 1. The ice rules are effective immediately.
Lisa Mendillo, communications manager for Walt Disney World Resort, revealed the new park rules on the Disney Parks Blog.
“While you may be familiar with the rules, please read them in advance of your next visit, as Walt Disney World and Disneyland make updates from time to time and are implementing some changes, including the removal of smoking areas within parks and the adjustment of park policies related to stroller size, stroller wagons and loose ice,” said Mendillo.
As of May 1, Disney theme parks will no longer have designated smoking area, according to Mendillo. This includes the water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and Downtown Disney District in California.
Designated smoking areas will be available outside the entrances of the parks and at Disney Springs in Florida. For guests who have room or dining reservations, smoking areas are also available at Disney Resort hotels.
This rule extends to visitors who smoke medical marijuana. Despite Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lifting the ban on smoking prescribed medical marijuana on March 18, Disney’s rules still define marijuana as an illegal substance.
Also banned are e-cigarettes and vapes.
A new rule that’s a bit more befuddling is the ban on loose or dry ice in a cooler or cooler bag to keep snacks and drinks cool.
The reason, according to Disney, is to “improve guest flow, ease congestion and streamline the bag-check and entry processes.” As an alternative, Disney recommends reusable ice packs. There is no word on whether blocks of ice are permitted.
Visitors worried about keeping medications or baby food cool are invited to obtain cups of ice at no charge at beverage stands throughout the park.
Families who plan to attend a Disney park with young children should get out the measuring tape before venturing out for their day of carefree fun.
Beginning May 1, Disney is adjusting its guidelines on stroller sizes. Strollers can be no larger than 31 inches (79cm) wide and 52 inches (132cm) long.
“The good news,” said Mendillo, “many strollers on the market, including many double jogging strollers, fit within these size guidelines.”
For parents with multiple babies and toddlers, this eliminates strollers like the Angeles Corp.’s four-passenger Bye Bye Buggy (32 inches wide), the Baby Trend Sit N Stand Tandem Stroller (43 inches wide) and the Foundations Worldwife LX6 Stroller (33 inches wide).
Also starting May 1, wagons will no longer be permitted. So leave your Keenz 7s and Veer stroller wagons at home.
“These updates are designed to help guest flow and ease congestion, making the parks more enjoyable for everyone,” Mendillo said.
“My number one go-to is renting a stroller from Disney,” said Disney Parks Moms Panelist Tabitha in the blog. “At Walt Disney World Resort, you can rent a single or double stroller once you arrive, and they can be rented each day or you can choose a length-of-stay rental.”
While Walt Disney World already offers a double stroller rental, Disneyland Resort will soon offer one, too.
