TEXAS CITY, TX — A young mother says she was forced to leave a public pool because she was breastfeeding her 10-month old son. Misty Daugereaux was at the Nessler Park Family Aquatic Center on Sunday with her two young sons and her nephew.

During this family outing, Daugereaux’s son became hungry and irritable, so she tried to discreetly feed him. However, she apparently wasn’t discreet enough and was approached by the pool staff.

According to Daugereaux’s Facebook page, a lifeguard came up behind her and told her she was not allowed to breastfeed at the pool, and that the facility manager told her she had to “cover up, and follow the rules,” or she ‘d have to leave.

Eventually, a Texas City police officer was called, and Daugereaux and her family were escorted from the pool.

Texas City leaders issued this statement:
“We, the City of Texas City are reviewing the nursing concerns raised at the Nessler Pool and how it was addressed by our staff. We apologize to Misty Daugereaux as it is clear she was offended by how she was treated at our City Facility. City policies and procedures will be reviewed and revised as deemed necessary. Any deficiencies regarding our employee’s actions will be addressed with further training.”

Several angry mothers suggested a “nurse-in” at the Nessler Park Family Aquatic Center for Monday at 10 a.m., and according to a Houston Chronicle report, several moms were there at the appointed time.
