LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — Following the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s World Cup victory Sunday, New York City announced it will honor the World Cup champs with a ticker-tape parade in Lower Manhattan Wednesday.
The team will be honored with a ticker-tape parade along the Canyon of Heroes — which runs from the Battery to City Hall — following the soccer players’ victory over the Netherlands 2 to 0 in Sunday’s final game, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced. The parade kicks-off at 9:30 a.m.
“On and off the field, this team represents what’s best about New York City and our Nation,” de Blasio said in a statement. “The confidence, grit, and perseverance of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team serve as an inspiration to all who watch them.”
The U.S. Women’s team won all 13 games in the World Cup — the largest margin of victory in its history. Sunday was the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s fourth World Cup victory.

U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro said, “We are incredibly excited and honored to celebrate the U.S. Women’s National Team’s World Cup victory with the amazing people of New York City.”
“This team is truly special, and so is the level of support that our fans have shown every step of the way along the quest to a fourth star,” Cordeiro said.
The city’s last ticker-tape parade along the Canyon of Heroes was when the U.S. Women’s soccer team won the World Cup in 2015 — the first time a women’s athletic team was honored with a parade, per the mayor’s office.
The city’s ticker-tape parade tradition along the Canyon of Heroes dates back to 1886.
Following the parade, the U.S. Women’s soccer team will be honored at a ceremony at City Hall 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The public can register for a limited number of tickets to the ceremony beginning Monday at 2 p.m.
