An avalanche that hit an SUV in Khardung La pass in Ladakh has left at least three dead while nine people are still missing. The rescue operation is on at the mountain pass, roughly at an altitude of 17,500 feet from the sea level and it’s among the highest motorable roads.

The rescue team includes police, district administration and the State Disaster Relief Force and the site of the avalanche is 40 km from the Leh town.
